Hunt for new stallholders as market work nears completion
THE hunt is on to find new stallholders to add fresh life to Scarborough’s market following its £2.7m transformation.
And according to Scarborough Borough Council the market is attracting strong inquiries from some exciting businesses that could soon be taking up shops or stalls.
As work edges towards completion of the redevelopment, bosses have unveiled a new prospectus for anyone who is interested in being a part of the market’s future.
They want to hear from anyone with an exciting and interesting idea to join existing traders within the market hall, the new mezzanine upper floor or the Vaults below.
Coun Bill Chatt, the council’s portfolio holder for Public Health and Housing, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for traders to be in at the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Scarborough Market Hall and Vaults and we are already getting some very strong inquiries from some very exciting prospects.”
The prospectus offers a range of different shop and stall units, in different sizes and available on simple “in and out” terms.
It says: “Once redeveloped, the
market will reclaim its position at the beating heart of Scarborough, a true destination for shoppers and a hub for the local community.
“Do you want to be part of this and join one of the most innovative and exciting markets in the north? With no commitment to a long lease and lots of help and support to get your business off the ground, there’s never been a better time to join us.
“We need the right mix of entrepreneurial, pro-active traders with a can-do attitude and a willingness to work together to create a fantastic new 21st century market.”
Coun Chatt added: “We already have a fantastic mix of fresh food and unique and unusual gifts, clothes and collectibles in the market.
“What we are looking for now are some fresh ideas to help us complete the new market and to help us create a thriving, hustle- bustle market loved by locals and visitors alike. We are really excited to see wonderful new proposals coming forward to be a part of the new market.”

floor, with space for new shops, offices and a café, as well as a complete facelift. The market is open during the work, which is expected to be completed by December.
Around half of the newly-created units will become available from mid-October and anyone interested is urged to get in touch as soon as
possible, as demand is likely to be high.
