The future is cashless as new payment technology powers ahead
CARD payments are the future for market traders, according to Simon George of Multipay, which has a partnership with the NMTF. But there are even more revolutionary payment solutions on the horizon.
Simon said that when he visited one of the Young Traders Market events in Westminster he noticed that every trader accepted card.
New payment technology was catching on fast.
It meant convenience for con- sumers and increased sales for traders.
Cash transactions had dropped dramatically and by 2011 digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Revolut were leading the charge.
Future trends included QR-based

apps, same day deliveries, drone deliveries, blockchain technology and crypto currency.
“In the future you will go into a shop with your phone, scan an item and walk out,” he said.
Cashless transactions will more than double by 2030, he said, and there would be a huge increase in “buy now, pay later”, which many see as controversial, Simon said.
    THANKS!
THE NMTF thanks everyone who contributed to our conference — obviously the speakers but also the delegates who added to its success.
We were happy with The Imperial in Blackpool and it’s provisionally booked for April 17th 2023. See you there?
How street food traders can keep our sewers free-flowing
EVER wondered how best to dispose of waste water from catering businesses on your market?
Steve Williams, who works in waste enforcement for South- ern Water, shed some light on a dirty business when he spoke to conference on best practice in waste water man- agement for mobile caterers
and street food businesses.
Tipping waste water down drains is a “no-no” as it can contribute to blockages.
From next year new regula- tions will ensure we all have bins for food waste at home.
Mobile caterers should invest in grease traps and take the goo home to dispose of in this green bin, he said.
