weekend and it was a lovely family atmosphere. She enjoyed a burger and I had a Mexican dish and it was so nice to be in such a bright, warm environment,” said Chris, who has shown his environ- mental concerns in the materials he has used for his bar.
The tables are old whisky barrels. The stools are from a school science classroom and the bar itself has been built from old scaffolding boards.
Jordan Hassall, who runs Jordy’s Pizzas, jumped at the opportunity to have a permanent unit in the market hall after starting his business on markets and expanding to corporate events, weddings and beer festivals.
“This market hall is just what Crewe needs,” Jordan said. “I remember visiting the market with my nan. It was very old school with a vacuum cleaner repair man
 the design elements of the redevelopment. Fortunately the glazed roof was in good
condition so could be left, but work was required elsewhere. The programme included repairs to external brickwork, opening up the large, bricked-in archways as entrances with glazed doors, and a complete remodelling and refurbishment of the indoors.
Improvements included relocated toilets, new flooring, electrics, heating and lighting, as well as data cabling to support EPOS for each fixed stall and wireless broadband throughout the building.
Richard said that MAM won the tender to run the market and immediately built a strong team to ensure the new-look market was a success.
“The number of traders had dwindled and while the work was carried out some were relocated to empty town centre units, while others decided it was the right time to retire,” he said.
As the work neared completion, the MAM team launched a campaign to let the units, which meant finding the right mix of businesses with a high-end offer to match the vision for a bright, airy market hall fit for the 21st century.
“We asked for professional business plans and we were looking for people with the right quality lines and a passion for what they did,” he said.
“We have ended up with some wonderful businesses, some of whom had worked at events and some which were starting from scratch,” he added.
One key new business is the craft ale bar, the Crewe Dog, run by Chris Mundie, who also has a popular craft beer pub and music venue in Northwich called The Salty Dog.
