United to support the markets industry
MPs, NABMA and the NMTF joined forces and pledged their commitment to supporting and promoting the markets industry at a parliamentary reception in the Houses of Parliament hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Markets Group.
Jim Fitzpatrick, MP, who chairs the group, introduced the keynote speaker, Marcus Jones, the Markets Minister, who spoke about the success of the Love Your Local Market campaign and the vital importance of the markets industry.
He said: “Love Your Local Markets is a campaign that has taken off over the last few years and now has the backing of the whole of

the industry. 1,200 places held more than 3,800 events last year and we expect to exceed that number this year.”
The minister said he was pleased that both NABMA and the NMTF were working together to deliver the national youth market campaign this year.
“Hundreds of people have used Love Your Local Market and the Youth Markets initiative to become entrepreneurs and take their own stall. Some are now running businesses that are going from strength to strength,” he said.
Coun Mick Barker, President of NABMA, praised Jim Fitzpatrick and Marcus Jones for “banging the drum” in support of markets.
He said: “Over 10,000 people have been introduced to markets through Love Your Local Market and 1,500 new businesses have been created. That’s the power of Love Your Local Market and the campaign is now finding support in countries in Europe, America, China and India.”
Joe Harrison, Chief Executive of the NMTF, spoke of the significance of the Youth Markets campaign which aims to bring new blood into the industry.
He said: “The NMTF working together with NABMA is essential for this industry. Alone we can go faster but together we will be stronger and that’s what’s needed for this industry.”
