32 MARKET TIMES • FEBRUARY 2020 Young Traders Market expands
 for this summer
LAST year’s Young Traders Market project was such a success that there are plans afoot to expand into more regions in 2020.
The BBC’s The One Show coverage of the national final in Stratford- upon-Avon, with overall winner Frankie Farrar getting her prize live on the show, was the real icing on the cake.
There was plenty of publicity across the country, and must have gone some way to putting that germ of an idea into some young entrepreneurs that they would like to have a go.
And so they can!
The NMTF will be contacting operators in the near future to ask them if they want to take part, particularly by holding their own local young traders market event.
Those who are interested will be invited to take part in an initial planning meeting.
It’s appreciated that some operators will not be able to hold their own event, but they are able to nominate young people already standing their markets to take part in the regional events.
Right now operators can express their interest by emailing or telephoning NMTF head office on 01226 749021 and ask to speak to a member of the YTM team.
And the latest news is that the existing six regional finals could become nine as the NMTF searches for venues in the East of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Young traders (aged 16 to 30) can already apply to take part in the competition by going online to
NMTF CEO Joe Harrison said: “Last year we got a fantastic number of entrants with some really excellent quality products and we’re looking for even more this year.
“Obviously we’re still in the planning stage but young traders can apply now and operators can express their interest.”
One thing is certain — the final will be in Stratford-upon-Avon again, this time on Friday and Saturday August 28 and 29.
