On the indoor market, fish man Pete Reader had his hand forced when the fish business he was working for closed down. Brenda encouraged him to set up on his own. That was four years ago and he has made a go of it. “It was very daunting as I have a young family,” Pete said. “But I got good support from Brenda and her team and the people who shop on this market are really loyal customers,” he added. After 25 years Brenda will be calling it a day in March, but she has the satisfaction of leaving a flourishing market with a lot of very professional traders she will miss. One recent success was the market signing up to The Real Deal Charter. “The good thing is that I am leaving the market in good form and in good hands,” Brenda said. Peter Hayes is taking over her role and market officers Jessica Jones and Richard Atkinson are both passionate about the market. Jessica, who joined the county council as a modern apprentice, said: “The market is Mold and the town wouldn’t be anything without it.” With passion and commitment on all sides, the future for Mold market is looking good.
