Bury celebrates more than 1,500 coach visits in one year
COACH driver Terence Carpenter got more than he bargained for when he drew into Bury market in Lancashire to drop off a coachload of market shoppers.
It so happened that his was the 1,500th coach to bring shoppers to the market in 2015 and the Mayor of Bury, Coun Stella Smith, greeted him with a complimentary bottle of champagne.
“We’re delighted that so many coach operators continue to visit our famous, award-winning market,” she said.
The mayor met Terence at the new official market drop-off point, which has proved popular with both coach drivers and passengers.
Terence is a driver with Barnsley- based Oakleaf Travel, which has 11 drivers who come to Bury market two or three times a week.
Picture shows Terence receiving his bottle of champagne from Coun Smith and her consort John Smith.
