The market boasts around 20 traders who set up stall on The Plain, which provides car parking on non-market days.
Julie doesn’t like to double up on lines, although there are two excellent fruit and veg stalls. The main food staples are all present and correct.
A fish man who travels from Grimsby is usually sold out by early afternoon, as is Bedale Bakery which also has queues for its bread and tasty confectionery.
The grocery stall has been on the market for 43 years, and the ladies’ fashion stall
has clocked up even more.
Ruth English, who sells her home-made
relishes and other Yorkshire delicacies, will play her guitar and give shoppers a song to encourage them to buy.
And there are some exceptional gift lines including a garden wares and gift stall which succeeded in making a sale to the Chancellor Rishi Sunak when he was visiting the market.
