Igor Krawic has been selling Croatian delicacies on Henley market since 2016. Sadly, he will be leaving the market following Brexit which he says has made it too difficult to source seasonal Croatian food
Deana and Martina French are two of three sisters known as the Bread Girls on Henley market
also long-standing traders. They used to work on the bread stall as girls when it was run by a family friend, and now they are “the bread girls” and run the business for themselves.
But sadly there is one friendly face that won’t be on Henley market too much longer. Igor Krawic came to the UK from his native Croatia to sell artisan food from his home country on markets.
He still sells smoked meats and cheese, but since Brexit he has been unable to source the seasonal Croatian foods he used to sell.
“It’s a combination of things that have led to me going back to Croatia, but I love this market and I will be sad to leave it,” he said.
It will be a loss to the market too, as unusual, artisan products are perfect for Henley.
But it will give another trader the oppor- tunity to test the water.
Nicci said: “We have 13 permanent and four temporary traders on the market, and it’s always good when the temporary
traders do well and take a permanent spot.” But size is the limiting factor, so this is a
market where existing markets are sitting pretty and would-be traders have to wait for their time to come.
