otherwise known as PaSar, who sell their lovingly made jewellery on the market.
Paula said: “It all started when I bought a beautiful piece of Murano glass and matched it with some silk ribbon to make a necklace. Friends asked if I could make something like it for them and I was soon busy making jewellery.”
The sisters had both moved from Yorkshire to Northumberland but worked full-time so they couldn’t see each other as often as they would have liked.
When they retired they started making beautiful jewellery and selling it on Alnwick Market three years ago.
Valerie Jubb has also found Alnwick market the perfect shop window for Border Candles, the scented candles and other products she began making five years ago after moving back to the UK from Spain and becoming bored following retirement.
Valerie said: “I now live in the borders

 and this market is quite convenient to get to and it is now a good market. I like the setting and the set-up,” she added.
Carole Graham also launched a business after returning to the UK from abroad — in her case, from France.
“I used to love the market stalls in France that sold beautiful baskets, so when I came back to the UK I decided to sell them here,” she said.
She soon discovered they are actually made in Morocco, so she now imports them from a family business there and also buys ethically sourced baskets from Ghana.
“I have been selling them on this market for the past eight years,” Carole said.
“Although the market did dwindle in that time, I have always done well here.
“But obviously the footfall is much better now that it is a much bigger market and I think everyone is positive about the future of Alnwick market.”
