Market Times • December 2015 NEWS Time to think about NMTF AGM 2016 THE NMTF AGM in 2016 will be held for the third year running in Stratford-upon-Avon. Members have continued to express satisfaction not only with the venue — The Stratford Hotel — but with the Warwickshire town in general and its central location. The AGM itself will be held on Monday April 18th — but arrive the day before, stay at The Stratford Hotel at a specially discounted rate, and take a walk round the town’s colourful Waterside market. All members can attend the AGM free of charge, and will be provided with lunch. Financially assisted delegates will be invited to a President’s Dinner, which will include entertainment, on the evening of April 18th and will be provided with overnight accommodation and breakfast the following morning. Members who want to stay on the Sunday night can enjoy a special bed and breakfast room rate of £85 for a double and £75 for a single. Members who are not financially assisted will be able to pay a special rate to attend the dinner and stay overnight (for prices see panel). Next year’s AGM will involve the election of members to the NMTF’s national Executive Board. Members who feel they can devote time to this, where duties will include attending board meetings at the NMTF’s South Yorkshire headquarters about six times a year, should consider being nominated. NMTF branches will receive the necessary paperwork for attendance, accommodation booking and nominating members for the board in December. Members not in a branch can request the paperwork from December by telephoning Cathey Clay on 01226 352815, email cathey.clay@nmtf.co.uk. At the moment there is a plan, still subject to board approval, for the NMTF to become incorporated — a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. If the Executive Board decides to recommend incorporation there will need to be an Extraordinary General Meeting immediately before the AGM. Members will continue to be updated on the situation through Market Times (see CEO’s update, page 21). NMTF AGM April 2016 PRICES HELD FROM 2015! VENUE: The Stratford Hotel, Stratford-upon-Avon TIME: 10am for prompt 10.30am start COST: AGM free to all members President’s Dinner on April 18 and bed and breakfast free to financially assisted delegates. Other members will be charged: £95 (single occupancy) and £65 (double occupancy) per person to attend the President’s Dinner and stay overnight with breakfast the following morning. Bed and breakfast on Sunday April 17 can be booked for: £75 (single occupancy) and £85 (double occupancy). This is not financially assisted. BOOKING DEADLINE: Attendance confirmation and booking requirements must be with Head Office by close of business on February 19 2016. 23 NOMINATIONS are invited for the NMTF’s annual awards — the John Carter/Harry Cross Memorial Cup, the Market Manager of the Year, and the NMTF/Harry Cross Student Grant. The memorial cup will go to anyone judged to have done the most for market traders over and above the normal call of duty. Anyone involved in the markets industry can be nominated (with the exception of Executive Board members). If you know someone you believe is worthy of the honour, send details, including a brief summary of what he or she has done, to the federation at Hampton House to arrive no later than March 11 2016. The cup was introduced in 1988 in memory of John Carter, a wellknown pitcher. The name of Past President Harry Cross was added when he died in the mid-nineties. The Executive Board will consider the nominations at a meeting prior to the AGM. The Dennis Williams Memorial Trophy for Market Manager of the year is named after an NMTF Past President and Honorary Life Member who died in November 2009. Dennis was highly respected throughout the markets industry, and was a tower of strength to the federation’s Executive over many years. Officers nominated need not be the market manager — superintendents, supervisors, inspectors — indeed anyone in a day-to-day managerial role can be nominated. So do you know an officer who goes that extra mile, perhaps beyond the call of duty? If so, all you have to do is tell us, in no more than 200 words, why you think that person deserves the honour. Entries can be sent via email to publicity@nmtf.co.uk or by post to the Publicity Department, National Market Traders Federation, Hampton House, Hawshaw Lane, Hoyland, Barnsley, S74 0HA. Please do not forget to include your name, the nominee’s name and title, the market on which he or she works and your contact details. The deadline is March 11 2016. The 2016 NMTF/Harry Cross Student Grant is available to the son or daughter of a member of the NMTF who has completed one term or semester at a British University. The closing date for applications is March 31 2016. The grant was set up by the family of the late Harry Cross, a Past President of the federation, with additional contributions from the federation and the Stockport and Fairs branches. While the grant is not large it is sufficient to purchase books or equipment. For an application pack please contact Cathey Clay on 01226 352815, email cathey.clay@nmtf.co.uk.
