Bindya Amin, the trust’s administrator, said the trustees
realised the writing was on the wall for the market and decided to take action.
They tasked The Market Doctors, a consultancy of market experts Philippe Basset, Steve Morris and Ellie Gill, with masterminding the regeneration of the market, and the result has exceeded their expectations.
Steve, who established a buzzing food court when he managed St Nicholas Market in Bristol, said the food offering was key.
“Although the market was down at heel, you could see it had potential,” he said.
The food court is at the centre of the market, with hot food stalls surrounding seating under green
and white gazebos with heaters to take away the chill.
The aim is to attract office workers at lunchtime on Thursdays and Fridays, and to become a popular eating place on Saturdays.
Cold stores have been installed to encourage upmarket food businesses to come on to the market and the quality and
