Glorious day for fishing competition
A GLORIOUS day’s fishing was enjoyed by all at the annual NMTF fishing competition at Barston Lakes, with the weather presenting perfect conditions.
Nineteen of the 23 competitors weighed in double figures with the majority weighing over 20lbs.
The John Burton Memorial Cup and a cash prize was presented to the overall winner Paul Constable who netted a whopping 91lb and 12oz. Dan Hall weighed in a magnificent carp of 17lb 6oz to claim the ‘best fish’ award.
LSD Promotions Ltd (Market Operators) sponsored the event and were also represented on the day by Kevin Potter and Dan Tomlinson.
Thanks to Coventry Branch for organising the match and their donation. Also Birmingham Rag Branch for their donation and to those individuals’ contributions which made the event a success.

Parliamentary markets group re-formed with new Chair
THE All-Party Parliamentary Markets Group has been re-formed in Westminster in the wake of the general election.
Ann Coffey MP, who has stepped down after a number of years as the group’s Chair, was presented with NMTF Honorary Life Membership after delegates to the AGM in Stratford-upon-Avon unanimously approved the move.
Her place has been taken by Jim Fitzpatrick, MP for Poplar in London's East End. Though a Glaswegian by birth, Jim has lived in London for more than 40 years, becoming a Labour MP in 1997.
He served as a minister in DEFRA (Department for Farming and Rural Affairs) during the last term of the Labour Government.
Lord Lyndon Harrison has been elected Secretary, while his fellow Liberal Democrat peer Lord John Lee has become Treasurer.
Vice-Chairs are all MPs — Ann Coffey (Stockport), Ronnie Campbell (Blyth) and Amanda Solloway (Derby North), who was elected in May.
The group was told that the industry’s Mission For Markets campaign was going well, with a survey of both operators and traders providing an excellent response — from the operators 300 markets surveyed, with the trader responses spread over 1,000 markets.
The industry’s Markets Manifesto — five points that it is felt need to be tackled with the help of government — was also discussed.
A report on the whole Mission for Markets campaign will be launched
at NABMA’s Harrogate conference in September.
