 REPORT
Market Times • April 2015
Nick’s vision is for a modern market centred on the finest quality regional food and drink. The 23 non-food traders selling traditional lines such as nighties and knickers didn’t fit the criteria. And their new location below the market hall near an entrance to Marks & Spencer is struggling to attract the required footfall.
Margaret Marriott, who has been selling cards on the market for 26 years, says her turnover has halved.
And Ann Fitzgerald, who sells ladies fashion accessories on a Saturday, said footfall had been a big disappointment, and the new covered market did not protect traders from the elements.
Both traders said they had initially been positive about the investment, but they now feel like the poor relations.
Nick said he has some ideas about how to improve the footfall for New Market Square, and his wider aim is to start a chain reaction that will breathe new love into Altrincham’s ailing town centre to the benefit of all the traders, the businesses and the people who care about their town.

Ann Fitzgerald who runs a ladies fashion accessories stall on the newly created market in New Market Square says their covered market needs more footfall
