Making Markets Matter fully booked for 2017 – get your name down for next year!
All Making Markets Matter events for 2017 have been booked – not surprising when you see what MMM provides — free competitions — one for a cash prize of £101 — giveaways, regular appearances by long-time mascot Victor the Lion, an amazing Voucher Vault and a friendly team of NMTF staff who will ensure the event runs smoothly.
This year we’re at Grimsby Freeman Street (Saturday May 2oth); Hoyland, Barnsley (Saturday June 17th); Newton Abbot, Devon (Saturday July 8th); Basingstoke (Saturday July 29th) and Doncaster (Saturday August 19th).

The event is unashamedly aimed at youngsters — those people we need to encourage to shop on our retail markets. And an added attraction this year is our fantastic MMM Basketball Shoot-Out.
So, rain or shine, it provides a fun day out for all the family.
But don’t just take the NMTF’s word for it.
Maria Cotton, now Business Manager for Barnsley Council’s Markets Service, was previously Business Development Manager at Kirklees Council. And in total she has been involved in the staging of three MMM events — at Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Barnsley, with the one coming up at Hoyland in June.
Here’s what she has to say:
“The Making Markets Matter event in Barnsley was a fantastic success and we saw footfall increase by over 20 per cent on a normal Saturday.
“The advance planning with the NMTF team was excellent and we all knew exactly what would happen on the day and the location of all activities, which is vital when planning events in the busy shopping areas on a Saturday!
“All day the feedback from the town centre shoppers was excellent and there was something for everyone to enjoy.
“The design of the event ensures that the markets benefited from the additional footfall in the town as shoppers were encouraged to wander the aisles as part of the event.”
Operators have committed to making a contribution of £1,500 towards their MMM, but the balance of the total cost of around £4,000 is borne by the NMTF, demonstrating our commitment to ensuring the retail markets industry not only survives but thrives.
