THE NMTF is 125 years old this year, and to mark this special occasion we’re holding our annual conference and AGM next April in an impressive four-star hotel in the heart of the Midlands.
Make a note of the date — April 22 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon.
As always the conference will include a President’s Dinner in the evening. For a special occasion we’ve come up with some special prices — £125 for members and £250 for market managers and others interested in the industry.
This is a small increase in costs compared with the 2023 event. But it reflects the quality of this Stratford hotel — and the fact that for the past two years costs were frozen at pre-Covid levels.
As before the NMTF will pay for the travel costs for Liaison Officers to get to and from the event — plus an overnight stay on the Monday night.
Once again the NMTF will be setting the stage for the only forum where operators, market managers and traders can get together to debate and discuss both the initiatives and concerns of our industry.
We have chosen the conference theme New Markets, New Opportunities — New Traders? as we assemble a team of speakers who will be able to talk about developments which are hopefully changing the industry for the better.
Increasingly we are seeing projects designed to satisfy both shoppers and market traders.
And that is why we are confident our theme is on target — and why Stratford-upon-Avon, the focal point of the NMTF’s Young Traders Market project, is such an appropriate venue.
As the birthplace of William Shakespeare Stratford is a world tourist attraction and one of the most popular conference venues in the UK.
If you have some spare time, there’s plenty to see and do. For more information at this early stage phone Events Manager Vanessa Higginbottom on 01226 352812 or email her: email@example.com
Annual awards — we want your nominations
NOMINATIONS are invited for the NMTF’s annual awards — the John Carter/Harry Cross Memorial Cup, the Market Manager of the Year, and the NMTF/Harry Cross Student Grant.
The Memorial Cup will go to anyone judged to have done the most for market traders over and above the normal call of duty. Anyone involved in the markets industry can be nominated (with the exception of Executive Board members).
If you know someone you believe is worthy of the honour, send details, including a brief summary of what he or she has done, to the NMTF at Hampton House to arrive no later than March 8 2024.
The Dennis Williams Memorial Trophy for Market Manager of the Year is named after an NMTF Past President and Honorary Life Member who died in November 2009.
Officers nominated need not be the market manager — superintendents, supervisors, inspectors — indeed anyone in a day-to-day managerial role can be nominated.
So do you know an officer who goes that extra mile, perhaps beyond the call of duty?
If so, all you have to do is tell us, in no more than 200 words, why you think that person deserves the award.
Entries can be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by post to the Publicity Department, NMTF, Hampton House, Hawshaw Lane, Hoyland, Barnsley, S74 0HA. Please do not forget to include your name, the nominee’s name and title, the market on which he or she works and your contact details. The deadline is March 8 2024.
The 2024 NMTF/Harry Cross Student Grant is available to the son or daughter of a member of the NMTF who has completed one term or semester at a British University. The closing date for applications is March 8 2024. While the grant is not large it is sufficient to purchase books or equipment. For an application pack please email: email@example.com
