Yorkshire Youth Market
The Yorkshire Youth Market celebrated the region’s finest young traders.
40 businesses run by people aged 16 to 30 traded in Kirkgate Market, Leeds, on 1 August 2018 – Yorkshire Day!
All traders were invited to take part in the National Youth Market.
The Yorkshire Youth Market was run by the NMTF and hosted by Leeds City Council in the award-winning Kirkgate Market with the support of market operators across Yorkshire.
At the event, a World Record was set for the most flat-caps in one place – 419! This attempt was sponsored by Chip & Pin Solutions. Our thanks and congratulations to everyone who got involved!
(L-R) Lauren Charlton (The Yorkshire Print, Rotherham), “Yorkshire’s Young Trader of the Year,” pictured with Harriet Docker (Little Loaves, Wakefield), Becky Jackson (Funky Sprout, Sheffield), and Jordan Mangnall (Jaded Heart, Barnsley) – all received Highly Commended awards from the NMTF.
A series of heats took place in towns and cities across Yorkshire in May and June. The best young traders from these local heats were selected to represent their area at the Yorkshire Youth Market – the regional final, if you like.
Youth Markets aim to support young people to test out, launch, and grow a business. The NMTF is helping to coordinate the Yorkshire Youth Markets initiative through the Yorkshire Markets Forum.
It is a collaborative approach to nurturing young talent in Yorkshire, advocating market trading as a business model, and encouraging the next generation of entrepreneurs to trade in the region’s traditional retail markets.
