Our annual awards — send us your nominations
The Imperial Hotel, Blackpool, is a grand 19th century hotel recalling the opulence and glamour of this famous resort’s Victorian heyday, with all the comforts of modern life.
Situated on North Promenade, The Imperial Hotel is a Blackpool landmark and has welcomed a host of royalty, politicians, statesmen and stars of both the stage and screen over the years. The hotel enjoys spectacular views of the beach to the sea and is close to all major attractions.
And there’s a tram stop at the front of the hotel — what more could a delegate want?
The original glass-roofed billiard room retains its stained glass canopy but has been turned into a bar and named No.10 after all the UK prime ministers who have stayed at The Imperial while in office. There are eight pub-style mirrors around the walls of the L-shaped bar, eight of which have prime ministers’ surnames cut into the glass – Churchill, Macmillan, Wilson, Callaghan, Thatcher, Major, Blair and Cameron.
The ninth mirror awaits the next sitting prime minister to stay at
the hotel
NOMINATIONS are invited for the NMTF’s annual awards — the John Carter/Harry Cross Memorial Cup, the Market Manager of the Year, and the NMTF/Harry Cross Student Grant.
The Memorial Cup will go to anyone judged to have done the most for market traders over and above the normal call of duty. Anyone involved in the markets industry can be nominated (with the exception of Executive Board members).
If you know someone you believe is worthy of the honour, send details, including a brief summary of what he or she has done, to the NMTF at Hampton House to arrive no later than March 23 2020.
The Dennis Williams Memorial Trophy for Market Manager of the Year is named after an NMTF Past President and Honorary Life Member who died in November 2009.
Officers nominated need not be the market manager — superintendents, supervisors, inspectors — indeed anyone in a day-to-day managerial role can be nominated.
So do you know an officer
who goes that extra mile, perhaps beyond the call of duty?
If so, all you have to do is tell us, in no more than 200 words, why you think that person deserves the award.
Entries can be sent via email to or by post to the Publicity Department, NMTF, Hampton House, Hawshaw Lane, Hoyland, Barnsley, S74 0HA.
Please do not forget to include your name, the nominee’s name and title, the market on which he or she works and your contact details.
The deadline is March 23 2020.
The 2020 NMTF/Harry Cross Student Grant is available to the son or daughter of a member of the NMTF who has completed one term or semester at a British University.
The closing date for applications is April 14 2020.
While the grant is not large it is sufficient to purchase books or equipment.
