Be a Compost ChampionBe a Compost Champion this spring
The NMTF has teamed up with the Recycle Now Home Compost campaign to offer market traders the opportunity to get involved with an initiative to get more people composting. Research from Recycle Now reveals that 1.7 million tonnes of fruit and vegetable scraps are thrown away each year, with damaging environmental impacts. These scraps could be composted instead, and we’re asking for your help to pass this message on to your customers. Following the success of the ‘How Green is Your Market’ competition, the NMTF and Recycle Now are putting on a series of “compost clinics” for traders who want to learn more about how they can make their market greener whilst also providing a new service for customers. What’s on offer to you? If you are a market trader and are already composting your organic food waste, either at home or on your market stall, or even if you know nothing about compost but want to find out more, then we want to hear from you! Recycle Now has a team of Waste Reduction Advisers who can come to your market to tell you more. During the clinic, you will learn about the benefits of composting at home and will be provided with tips and advice on how to get started, what can and cannot be composted and the many ways of using the finished product. With this information, you can pass tips onto customers helping them get more from their shopping. Once you have set up your clinic, you will receive a load of supporting collateral to let people see you know your onions and are supporting the campaign: A full colour banner (6x2ft) inviting customers to ask you more about composting Badges you can wear showing your support for composting Tips and factsheets to help you advise customers about how to compost, what makes a good compost and how to use the compost To arrange a compost clinic at your market, simply email us with your telephone number and the market you work at. We’ll take it from there, and in no time at all you can start adding an extra service for your customers.
